Healthcare professionals know to look for evidence-based treatments and techniques with robust clinical data. However everyone is different and conditions such as migraine and anxiety are not easy to define, let alone treat effectively, so anything safe that helps should be considered. Lifestyle and environmental factors play important roles and there seem to be elements of modern life that can have negative effects on us at times. Statistics on the changing state of mental health in the UK don't make for good reading and no one is sure why things are getting worse. According to these NHS stats prepared by the BBC, from 2008 to 2018 antidepressant prescriptions in the UK doubled to 71 million, but mental health services are not able to meet all patient needs with continued drops in funding. The current focus on prevention of mental health conditions is being argued as more cost-effective than waiting to treat, but it is a new field of study and not straight forward.
